Check out the frequently asked questions for ACE Canada and Nationals below!
01
What does the $15 delegate registration fee go toward? Could you provide a detailed breakdown of this fee?
Delegate fees go towards providing year-round support and programming for chapters. This includes but is not limited to providing sample cases to chapters, website upkeep and enhancements, partnership opportunities beyond the Nationals conference, etc. Please note that ACE is a non-profit, all funds go towards member experience and ACE Canada does not profit from our operations. Early bird and National conference fees are also subsidized on a per-student basis, with grants and partnership fundings offsetting the ticket price for students.
02
Why did ACE rebrand?
We rebranded to save costs for delegates. In 2023, to stay under our previous affiliation, membership fees were proposed at $50 with 15% of all fees going directly towards that entity. With ACE being a not-for-profit organization, the 15%+ fee would come from the delegates with an increased Nationals fee. To avoid increasing costs for the delegates, we rebranded as ACE.
03
How many case conferences are held in a year?
ACE Nationals is an annual event, hosted by ACE Canada and attended by 600+ students from 20 schools across the country. Smaller scale "invitational" conferences are hosted, typically annually, by individual ACE Chapters. We encourage our members to attend nearby chapter's invitationals as a perk of their membership with ACE Canada.
04
Will funding be provided for delegates to attend Nationals? / Why was there no chapter executive discount for last year’s Nationals 2024?
BOD does not provide any funding to chapter execs / delegates, all funds raised at BOD level go towards Nationals operation and reducing cost to delegates. Chapters have the responsibility to reach out to your local Business School or seek external sponsorships to subsidize cost for your delegates.
05
What steps will be taken to ensure that chapter-level cases are approved thoroughly? How will chapter executives be provided with constructive feedback to ensure good quality cases are given to delegates?
The BOD ensures thorough Judge training (content including rubric, giving feedback, fairness etc ) is provided to all judges, at the Judge Training event prior to the Nationals. Cases provided to delegates go through multiple levels of review and approval - ensuring case quality, fairness, and professionalism.
06
Will there be a debate category this year?
Unfortunately, no. In previous years the debate category heavily burdened operations due to its unpredictable run time, and coordinating with debater's secondary competition categories.
07
What meals will be provided at Nationals this year?
All you can eat dinner is provided by the Sheraton on Friday and Saturday. There will be no Saturday morning breakfast, this decision was confirmed by a vote by Chapter Presidents in September 2024.
08
When do Invitational cases need to be written by?
It is the Chapter’s responsibility to draft their Invitational cases. We require chapters to provide case drafts to the BOD for edit and approval at least two weeks prior to the event. This is to ensure the consistency of quality across ACE cases, adequately prepare delegates for Nationals, and support the smooth execution of the case competition.
